got my bike on on 11/02/2012 right from the start couldent help but think how quiet it was so i looked in to how the exhaust was put together big baffle/ plates/ fiberclass woding so thought she needs to be able to breath a little before messing about with it i wonted to make sure she was running rite so i waited till id clocked up a few miles on her done about 600 miles on her as to date and decided today was the day got out my grineder sharpend up a pease of 8mm thred i had and knocked it strait down the middle of the baffle kept going untill it got about a foot down the pipe with a great result i hoped (or id be going up to 10mm next) started her up balls i thought sounds just the same till i gave it a quick twist of the exelerator bingo it now has a louder sound a slightly throtey quality to it but sounds pritty much the same when at tickover so my nabors wont complain when i warm her up before i go out and from a MOT point of view it aint to loud but like i said im not to fussed about the sound just wanted to let her breath a bit easyer took her out for a ride (nice day for it ) and she still runs sweet if anything runs better at lower revs when in hiyer gears dont seem to strugle as much and from a allround point of view seems to run just a little bit better not a lot but a little so it worked out well and did what i wanted plus i did my first mod to the bike next im makin a front mud gaurd extender wich i have about a third done but will be postin sum pics of that when finished then who knows but if i can find sum spare cash iv got a few idears

That's it your bloody doomed now that you have started modding you won't be able to stop. Glad your happy with her, stock pipes for many are simply just not motorcycally enough. It's nice to hear a bike as for me at least it is all part of dealing more at one with the experience

think your rite could be doomed started doing stuff to another bike i had in the past ended up takeing the whole thing apart recromed everthing resprayed everything and did just about everything else inbertween ended up with a a bike that looked brandnew(not bad for a bike from 1981) compared to the bike when i got it wich had been sitting in someones garden for about 20 years lukaly this bike is in grate shape apart from some cosmetics so will need a lot less work and im not bothered about keeping it standard so gives me more options as to what i do to it bollox im DOOMED lettig my bike breath a bit 880307 but plan on spending more time rideing it than doing stuff so what ever i do will be a little at a time

There is so much you can do with these bikes, and it is part of the enjoyment of having one.The only thing that stops me most of the time is cost, always read these posts then see how much I can do it for myself,(if I need it that is).

Don't forget that sound can be deceiving and you may feel the bike is going better but if it was jetted correctly before the modification then you will not have gained power with this mod but instead made it run slightly leaner. This will in turn give a minor power drop for the mod you have done. A Carbed bike that is jetted properly will be ok with minor changes but be careful you do not go any further without re-jetting.

now thinking about it spoze the sound could be deceiving good point . if the bike was running a little rich (or so it seemed when i changed spark plugs ) does running slightly leaner meen that it might balance its self out (could be a silly question) and is haveing it rejetted expencive although if i were going to rejet i spoze i might aswell get some k and n air filters to do the job proper think the fillters are about 100 od pounds for my bike

Ah, now we were not aware that it was running rich before. So if you were in fact running slightly rich before then that means someone has re-jetted at some stage. The reason I say that is because these bikes come out of the factory in slightly lean state, so the only other explanation for a rich state would be a filthy air filter restricting air flow which in turn would cause a rich state but that would not allow a power increase when allowing more air out of the exhaust as no more air would be able to get in!
As you have stock pipes and air filter the bike was probably running an after market exhaust and or air filter at some point in it's life, as there would be no other reason to re-jet.
So if it was running slightly rich, by allowing the exhaust to flow a little faster you would possibly notice an increase in power due to an equalised fuel/air ratio. So it would seem you have enhanced your bike after all.

very interesting dave when i got the bike it had new air filters fitted in it(so they wernt dirty ) and the plugs were kleened but after id had it for a while riding it most days it started to run not as good as it had been when plugs were in a good state (as when i got it) so before i started messing about with it i put new plugs in it the ones that had been kleened were showing sines of it running rich then i did the exhaust mod all be it hammer and peace of metal and its running nice but if im being very picky i think carbs could do with being ballanced (but i thought that when i got it) is there any way of knowing for sure wether its been rejeted without taking carbs of and haveing a look ? or when the time cums should i just fit k and n air filters to it and go with the asumption that if it hadent been rejeted it will run werse . could it be that carbs were just not set up rite and thats why it was running a little rich . bingo brains started ticking over spoze if i leave it for a while then check the plugs again and they dont show sines of it running rich then i can asume its equalised fuel/air ratio and hence its more than likely been rejetted wich should give green light to change air filters to k and n what jju think and thanks for explination and reasoning behind your answer its without a dout what i joined this site for help and information

I would just see how you get on for a while and then make a decision.
I have a jetting matrix somewhere so if you do decide to up jet let me know and I will search out the correct jet size for the level of mod that you decide on.
As for knowing if it has been jetted before, I think the carbs need to come off but I cant be sure, as I have never looked in to any details of your model.
