PostSubject: * What Modifications do you have planned for this winter 2012 / 13*   Sat Oct 13, 2012 7:26 pm

Last year before winter set in I compiled a list of modifications I wanted done, this is how I have done so far

Decided not to do
Remove clutch lever engine kill switch............................................................................................Decided not to do this

Still not done from last years planned modification list but still planned
Add heated handle bar elements so I can keep my Kuryakin grips in place.......................................................Not done yet
Add Titanium bolts under the floor boards so that sparks fly out when the bike is grounding out on bends.......Not done yet
Move the helmet lock to the front offside of the bike....................................................................................Not done yet
Spray the chrome headlight bucket black.....................................................................................................Not done yet
Spray paint the front brake calliper.............................................................................................................Not done yet
Add a .... 2nd stebel horn.........................................................................................................................Not done yet
Add independent fuse box.........................................................................................................................Not done yet
VS1400 drive mod......................................................................................................................................Not done yet
Add a chrome brake reservoir cover.............................................................................................................Not done yet
Add new wide chrome brake & clutch levers...................................................................................................Not done yet

Half Done
Add white wall tyres.........................................................................................................................Half done

Planned and done
Wire in the electrics on my heated seat mod............................................................................................Done
Install blue led lights all over the bike......................................................................................................Done
Add a light bar & spot lights...................................................................................................................Done
Add mud flaps front and back, the front one will at least keep a lot of shit off the bike (home made)..............Done
Add a ride Bell, for good luck...................................................................................................................Done

Unplanned but done
14" ape hanger bars added.................................................................................................................Done
Rider backrest made (home made)........................................................................................................Done
Clear indicator lenses..........................................................................................................................Done
Handle bar risers added.......................................................................................................................Done
Indicator warning buzzer......................................................................................................................Done
Clear hand guards for cold weather (home made)....................................................................................Done
Detachable sissy bar armrests for grandson (home made)........................................................................Done

Out of 24 modifications either planned or unplanned I managed 12.5 mods which I am happy with as I have got just over 50% done.

So my question is, what modifications have you done over the last year and or what do you have planned for this coming winter?

Bloody hell Sim, you have been really going for it. All that in only 6 months, way to go buddy
I see your planning an air filter mod, I presume that means adding a K&N or similar hi-flow filter and opening up the air box at the same time as adding a fuel injection module?
As for the drive train upgrade, I also want one but they are as rare as rocking horse shit over here, probably have to buy in from state side.

You will be shocked at the power increase you will get when you have done them, I know I am, when I ride a bog standard 800. I know if we wanted max power in the first place we would hove bought different bikes but it isn't about maximum power in a general way but for me I like to know I have all the horses this bike has released without any being reined in unnecessarily.

I got the cheap electronic Tacho from the cheap electronic tacho thread Crash, It works quite well, easy to fit (after reading Doobie's intall ) and I was surprised at how low revs your running when going at speed,
Very handy gadget.

thank's guy's, im really looking forward to it.

simbo did you set it at 0.5 revolutions, should give you a reading of between 1050-1100 rpm on tick over after the engine's warmed up. its not as spot on as a proper one but its cheap and does the trick.

Yeah Lez, set at 0.5 after finally figuring I had to use a pencil to push the button in I like the built in total run time and highest revs of your last ride function too.

Hmm

- remove all rust spots from chrome
- replace indicator covers or indicators in whole
- Metzeler ME880 whitewalls
- some power socket for satnav
- constellation lights
- Slipstreamer Falcon 20" windshield
- custom paint job
- ISO grips
- backrest
- LAF exhaust
- wild hog emblem on front fender
- LED set to match custom paint job

oh wait...2013 not 2031. Well maybe I'll squeeze something in without being decapitated by wife lol! Then again...we have separate bank accounts

A bit of colour on the cables has been added to the list, I got some uv cable cover, not sure where yet ? I might just do the bottom half of the clutch cable.

Is there a reason you bought uv cable, and what is it actually for. I remember another member added that and it looked good I think they used red if memory serves. Great idea to add a splash of color to the otherwise boring bits

Just to add a little colour to the boring bits like you say, It will just slide over the cable/wire etc then shrink wrap either end,it comes in all different colours.

Great stuff, will look forward to how it all looks when done.
I would personally disconnect the clutch cable at the lever end Sim & then slip the covering to wherever you want it to be, much easier than undoing the other end in my experience. Will look forward to your thread with the write up & pictures.

PostSubject: 1" Handlebar risers   Sat Dec 01, 2012 5:44 pm

I am now in possession of some 1" handlebar risers from Shapemaster (USA) and am intending to fit them over the winter! Hopefully will result in the risding posisiton on my VZ800 being a little more comfortable than it already is! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-Boulevard-M50-handlebar-risers-1-tall-Smooth-VZ800-and-M50-SALE-/200784950545?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ebfb73511

Nice buy The Ebay item description makes the VZ800 almost un-ridable in standard form ? which I find very hard to believe, half an hour before getting shoulder, neck and back pain ? they will make a difference though

Bloody hell, that's with a throttle boss as well. That throttle boss really does make a big difference, especially on long rides.
It makes me very jealous when I think how much I paid for the Kuryakyn originals. Great buy Sim.

The Kuryakyn ones were the ones I was going to buy but now I've seen these I might get them instead. Are they still of a fairly decent quality?

I'm pretty impressed by them Better than I expected for sure, They won't be to the standard of Kuryakyn I wouldn't have thought but they're a bargain at £20. I bought them on the 12th and they arrived today so not bad for delivery either.
