After reading about the Oxford muffs in another thread, I remembered I had some. So I went and pulled them out and fitted them on for a try see.
I am wondering if it's a good idea to install the grip heaters in the muffs and have a plugin connection for each one so that I could remove the muffs and heaters when not needed. That way the bike would look silly only for a few months of the year.

dont sound like that bad an idear muffs alone normally do the job so heated ones would be luvly and toasty

Nothing silly about that Idea, Oxford sell the muffs with a pocket inside them for that very purpose.

You should find that they are warm enough without the heater, either way if it makes you feel more comfortable, then go for it,always have mine muffs on if it gets cold enough. The bike wont look silly with them on,how many couriers ride without them.(very few).

When I was using my bike with muffs during the coldest part of the winter the muffs were a life saver, no pun intended, before I had them my hands were in pain. Not sure how much benefit the warmers that you can put in them would have to be honest but anything is better than nothing when it's freezing outside, go for it nothing can be lost but plenty of potential gain.

Mine are an older set of muffs (from my scooter days) and have no pocket. Where is the pocket on the newer set? That may give me an idea were to put the heater elements. I have the muffs mounted and they go over my hand shields. That gives them a nice shape, but limits the places I can put the heating elements.

It is a pocket that sits over the top of the hands.

I've used muffs, heated grips, handguards etc. Sooner or later I think I'll try plug in heated gloves. But when it's really, really cold, you might even need the lot! Funnily enough your hands are never as cold when your body is really warm. Get home, feel your chest - if its cold to the touch, you can bet your hands were freezing! Perhaps heated waistcoats are worth considering.

Oh dear - I digress and it's nice and warm outside at the moment anyway!

Jeez, how cold is it when you ride? I ride in 40F (4.5C) degree weather and a pair of gloves is plenty warm. You guys riding in the snow over there? Because that's pretty hardcore. Probably a silly idea, hand muffs and warmers 215375

At about 2 degrees celcius (won't ride in the ice) the wind chill at about 60mph can be minus 10. That is cold and hands will get very cold if not warmed up. I find at this temperature even with heated grips and 2 sets of gloves I need to stop every 20 minutes to warm hands on the engine.

I was riding regular during last winter when it was minus 2 to 4c plus wind chill, I fekin hated it so bought some muffs. The muffs were great but within a couple of weeks of buying them I changed jobs so didn't need to ride the bike & now they are sat on the shelf doing nothing but it was worth it just for the short time I had them as before having them my hands were in excruciating pain.

My grips arrived and I put them on. After a bit of consideration I decided I would go the heated muffs route, but I am making them "plug in" to my cig power socket. This saves a lot of permanent wiring and means I can take them off when not needed. The bike does look better with them off. Off and on photos coming.
