Chaps, following some sage advise from Captain Crash and a little research I'm considering the Cobra Fi2000 fuel computer.  I've read the threads on the forum which have been very useful, thank you.  However, since the initial reports and positive feelings there has been no further comment.  Could I ask those of you who have fitted the unit to let me know how things have gone since and if there have been any issues encountered.  Thanks for your help and advise.

Cobra Fi2000 Fuel Management? 428386  Very easy to fit, Just plugs onto the injector connections and away you go, No maps, No adjusting anything, It corrects the fuel ratio to whatever set up you have, A little expensive, But worth it for peace of mind knowing it's the perfect setup.

Hi Ian I fitted the Cobra Tri Pot

New Cobra Fi2000 Fuel Processor Suzuki... $162.50

If you look at Tex link you will see it there.

I have had this for ages now and have not had any trouble with it at all. These machines are approx 50 bhp so why pay out out exouberant prices to get an extra 2/3 bhp,all you nead is something to adjust your fuel for you.Good luck your thoughts may be different from mine.

Running with aftermarket pipes and hi-flo filter will actually reap approximately  8 bhp when set up right, that's a lot of extra power. A few of the members with stock bikes that have ridden mine have been surprised at the difference in power available on comparison.
Which module to go for though is all dependent on how much you want to spend, if money was no object I would have bought one of those but I didn't and bought the Healtech one instead. the good thing with those ones is that no matter what changes you make, it will adjust immediately without you needing to concern yourself with getting involved in any way. Mine has been on a free dyno run and my setup was nearly perfect, so there would be no power difference but then if I made any changes to the running condition it wouldn't be. However when I have run the bike baffled I couldn't tell any difference so slight changes probably matter very little. For me cash talks and as much as I would have wanted one of those my wallet said no.

Thanks everybody, extremely helpful as usual.

Dave with your Healtech unit how much set-up did you need to do and what did that involve ?  As Alfie says I'm not that bothered about outright power. As an old engineer I just like things to work efficiently and object to spending money I don't need too.  Hence a K&N has a great appeal on both counts. After I've installed that the chance of me making any further mechanical changes are pretty slim so if the Healtech is cheaper and easy to setup then its an option I would have to consider. Not to mention that if our own Mr Intruder uses it then it must have something going in its favour

PostSubject: Re: Cobra Fi2000 Fuel Management?   Cobra Fi2000 Fuel Management? Icon_minitimeThu Jun 27, 2013 7:05 pm

Ian I need to be clear, if money was no object when I bought mine I would have bought the Fi200O Pro, however it was, so I didn't and did a bit of research and shopped around instead. Why would I have bought it? Simply because it is akin to an electronic fuel management brain and will adjust without any external interference needed to the perfect setup at the blink of an eye. So you can change pipes or revert back to stock and it will be perfect. You can start with just pipes and add a filter later and it will accommodate immediately as those changes are made, again without any external interference and so on and on. The reason I would have bought one is simply this, I want to squeeze out every ounce of available power out of any bike that I own that the manufacturer was not gracious enough to give me in the first place and that is why my bike has a VS1400 drive conversion /Fuel injection management / Aftermarket pipes / Hi-Flo air filter / Timing retard eliminator and removal of the rev limitor.
The Healtech is a good bit of kit at a very reasonable price and is relatively easy to adjust. However my bike has been Dyno'd on a freebie day and what I found out from that was this: The Healtech comes with a couple of generic maps and the one that is done for aftermarket pipes (with or without hi-flo filter) is actually setup for aftermarket pipes with hi-flo filter, so would actualy be running slightly rich when used without a hi-flo filter. So anyway when we put my bike on the Dyno with Cruzer pipes and K&N, that map was nearly perfect and only very minor adjustments were made. Would there be much difference on this setup if a different set of pipes was used or a different hi-flo filter? Well the answer would be yes but the difference for our bikes would be marginal so in conclusion of this particular matter, the Healtech will work extremely well (in my opinion) with any aftermarket pipe or hi-flo filter that is available for our bikes with very little variant in mapping.
So in summary my advice to any member would be that if you are chasing every once of power, buy a Fi2000 Pro but if you just wanted to access the the available power that the bike has to offer (within reason) and have it running as the god lord intended (within reason), I would say buy the cheapest fuel injection module you can get your hands on that you know works. Healtech is a good option as it can be very fine tuned, however the Cobra Fi 200 Tri Pot as used by Alfie is also a very good buy and would be more than sufficient.

Basicly it is a unit with 3 dials, each dial has a setting for you alter your running, this is done electronicly, the old method was done with vacuum guages.Once done and to your liking you can just forget about,if you make further changes to your air/petrol set up it will need to be set again, not that you can do much when you have done your exhaust and  air filter mods. This was my thinking on getting this model as it does it's job fairly cheap, since I fitted and experimented with it have not had to alter it at all.Simple to fit 3 wires.one to injector wire, one to power, and one to earth.

Hi Alfie,
I`m thinking of fitting one of these, can you tell me have you noticed any significant drop in MPG since fitting the Fi2000, i understand if we have a bit more power to play with we will but once settled down MPG is always at the back of my mind,,, if you have noticed a difference is it an overall difference in MPG or maybe focused around town or on longer runs, i'd appreciate your input as we have the same bike and just about the same mods apart from the Fi2000.

To be honest I would not say there is a significant loss of mpg,I always fill back up at 150mls,and have never run out.My cruising speeds are roughly 60/65 mph and round town 30/35 mph.I have have the ocasional speed burst were appropiate, but mainly the rider I go out with a lot has a greedy VTX1800 Honda so I would end up waiting for him anyway,as he just likes to plod merrily along at 60/65.

If a bike with all the mods done was riding next to a bike with no mods done and they accelerated at exactly the same speed and changed gear at exactly the same point and both riders weighed exactly the same, there would be zero difference in fuel consumption. The difference in fuel consumption can only come into play when you use the additional available power increase.

Just a thought -  are you buying an exhaust at the same time? if you are, and want the 2000r, it might be worth a chat with metric cruisers as they do 20% off the processor when you buy the exhaust (you get the 10% club discount off the exhaust, but not stackable on the processor) - i was quoted 240 on this basis.

(just for the record my conclusion was the r is less useful and less flexible than the healtech and more money, haven't investigated the prices of powerpro as yet, but at $600 us, it aint gonna be cheap in our neck of the woods)

I'm afraid not Rob.  The bike had the Roadhouse 65 specials fitted when I bought it.  I'm adding a K&N filter which is what has necessitated the fuel processor.  Mike has said he will give me a forum 5% discount but it wasn't clear if the £279 was with the discount or if the discount came off of the £279.

It's all arrived and fitted.  An absolute doodle if anybody else is thinking about fitting one of these.  The K&N is in as well.  Something has definitely changed for the better, everything seems to run a lot smoother than before.  However, reading the instructions it would suggest that the Fi2000 default set-up is to allow for aftermarket exhausts and not a combination of the K&N and exhaust.  I'm not sure what to do at this point.  Do I need to adjust the Fi2000 or will it be OK as it is ?

I don't know that model so can't help but if the setup you have it on at the moment is for aftermarket pipes and you are only running on stock pipes, that's not an major issue. it just means rather than getting the extra power that K&N and aftermarket pipes will give you by flowing fast at both ends, you will be granted just minimal extra power but the bike will be running rich. Always better to run rich than run lean.
Hopefully someone with that model will chip in here.

Just went to look for the instructions on setup from the Cobra site, which are downloadable in PDF format.
The standard setup is 3.5 / 5 / 3.5 This setup is a generic setup for aftermarket and slip on pipes but with a stock air filter. The bit I am unsure from your post if you are running stock pipes or as your signature says, you are running "Roadhouse Sixty-Five Specials".

FI 2000 Cobra, been reading with interest about this as its something i would like to do over the winter, along with the cone filter.

Q, Does it work if you still have O2 sensors fitted, Been reading up on it and some people mention about a Cobra unit with O2 sensor cables on it, Plus probs with the FI light coming on when fitting.

Also, is this the right unit? Unsure as it seems cheap.

Mine is fitted with the O2 sensor still in-situ and works absolutely fine.  There isn't any connection to the O2 sensor with that model.  It actually sits between the ECU and the injectors although there is a model from Cobra that does have the O2 sensor connection as well.  I have an aftermarket exhaust fitted with a K&N airfilter and the settings Dave worked out above work pretty well.  I think they may be a little rich on a deceleration throttle but otherwise there have been no problems at all.

Ian I am curious as to why your saying it is rich on deceleration. Is that experience because of an exhaust burble & popping on deceleration only? I actually rather like that Cobra Fi2000 Fuel Management? 852880  & is only usually experienced by bikers with after market pipes fitted. However this is easily rectified by doing the de-pairing modification?

Hi Dave, great to hear from you.  I quite like it myself which is why I haven't messed about with it too much yet.  I've had a few occasions where when I been coasting to a halt with the clutch in and the engine has cut out.  When I was running the slightly leaner settings this never happened and I did try running a little leaner again which stopped it.  Unfortunately it's been a particularly taxing year so I haven't had the time to test my thoughts in a meaningful way so this is just a theory at the moment.

Good to here from you to my friend. Cobra Fi2000 Fuel Management? 3498837457
That's the good thing about these units, they are easily changed as and when. If the engine was cutting out while coasting & it was corrected by adjusting the pot then that's great but I am very surprised that those positions on the pots would make that happen? Which pot did you adjust, was it the green pot from 4 to 3.5 or something else?

Spot on.  That was the original setting on that pot before you kindly did the research and it seemed to work OK.  All the others were left where you advised and it has worked just fine.  I went on the RTTW this year with Millie on the back which turned out to be a 300 mile day and the bike never missed a beat in very varied riding conditions.

Im fuel injected, will this mater, or is it just saying its like a Carb.
Bit confussed now, dont wont to be buying the wrong thing, Puls its looks cheap compared to what
other members have paid.

Help welcomed as always.

Just phoned dave (Mr Intruder) & he said he doesn't have a cobra system so is not 100% sure but that he believes you must get the one that is the right one for your intended set up on the C800. So you must consider whether you will be keeping the O2  sensors still or or not?

If you want O2 sensor you will need 92-1827CL (closed loop)
If you dont or want have o2 sensors 92-1827

Sorry if I aint helped much but I am just passing on what I can remember him saying and then checked it and it seems to be spot on
