PostSubject: Considered - stripping paint of the engine.   Fri Jan 10, 2014 10:22 am

Gents,

We've had people in the past polishing the fins etc to quite neat results.

I haven't seen anyone though, stripping the paint off the engine in between the fins to get a all polished look like VS1400's got.

1. Is it possible at all, consideing all nooks and cranies you'd have to get into (no clue what tool to use for that)

2. Would that be prone to rust afterwards? Fins don't seem to catch any.

What are your thoughts... I'm sure someone tried that to some extent.

I think all silver engine on Volusia would look badass :)

Failing that, I'll have to look into re-painting, to replace black with some colour that will fit and complement custom paint. :/

Marcin,

1. Possible, yes, but not a job I'd like to do, Paint stripper would melt rubber or plastic gaskets, or you'd have to strip the engine to have it vapour blasted.

2. It's Aluminium, So no rust, but it would go furry unless cleaned regularly or protected with lacquer.

My thoughts? You'd be better to spray it Silver if that's what you want? It would be a lot of work for minimal visual effect though. Especially as some Volusia's already have Silver engines but it's never really noticed anyway.
Good luck if you go ahead with it

yeah, sounds like too much.

I might settle for custom colour as that will stand out proper.
