De-Baffled the Exhaust as the stock exhaust sounds like sh*t.
De-Baffled sounds much much better, louder & deeper but thankfully not obnoxious. I am quite happy with the sound now but breaking the weld by wiggling the freed up baffles after cutting out the back plate was a real pain.
If you do this mod don't forget to respray the bare metal that has been exposed after the cut has been done. the last thing you want is your nice shiny exhaust rotting out from the inside out.
affraid

I have placed a link below to a video showing how this mod is done

This is what I think I'd like to do to my bike. I've already drilled the holes in the rear plate and bashed a pipe up the center, but it still sounds * Suzuki C800, De-Baffle Stock Pipes * 394307 to me. I can't listen to the video where I am to view your example, but I'm really hoping that I don't simply end up with the same shitty sound....only louder. * Suzuki C800, De-Baffle Stock Pipes * 437349

Hi Bikerbabe & welcome. pop in to the c-mon-in-say-hello section - LINK and say hello when you get a chance.
The sound will be pretty much the same but very slightly deeper I think but not a lot.

Sounds like you need aftermarket to me Twisted Evil In the meantime I think you need 'Quick Time' to view the video. As regards pipes - if bikers around you have loud pipes, that is your benchmark. I met a guy last week with a Samson Exhaust on his 1400 cruiser. When he fired it up 30 feet away, my leather jeans blew backwards - the only thing louder than that is an earthquake. Pretty impressive but neighbours might disagree !I suppose the most difficult thing is to find a bike just like yours with a sound you can say - "that's what I want, exactly"

I hate the sound of the stock pipes, I like the sound of the stock pipes drilled, I like the de-baffled stock pipes a little more. I quite like the look of the stock pipes as well, I reckon they don't look half bad for a stocker, just a bit to long for me.
If the stock pipes were a foot shorter I would have de-baffled them and stayed with that and been happy with it. there are a lot of other things I would rather spend that amount of cash on!

See, I want what I can't have. Rolling Eyes I love the sound of 2" straight drag pipes - but I really don't care for the look of them. Vice versa with my stock pipes. Ah well......maybe I'll figure it out. But until then, those baffles are coming out next weekend so that at least it can be LOUDER! I can hardley hear my beauty around all the Harleys that I ride with. * Suzuki C800, De-Baffle Stock Pipes * 410694

Hey now thats a handy video, I might give that a try as it looks so easy. I also like the look of the stock pipes but dont really like how tame they sound

Do the carb models need re-jetting after the de-baffle mod??

If only doing the de-bafflle then no real need to re-jet. it will cope OK with the minimal changes to the flow.

Yeah the vid cam never does justice to the exhaust note but it does sound nice and meaty now with out it sounding like a straight through pipe which can be a bit ear splitting !!!

Yeah that's cool, I just like a cruiser to grumble a bit and stock pipes in there usual format just don't cut it for me. Saying that though I can see why people leave them stock, being noticed ain't for everyone.

Hey brother; Did you slam a pointed rod down the center of the baffle first to poke a hole in the plate deep inside muffler first or did you just pull the baffle and leave the inside plate alone?

All depends on available cash my friend, stock pipes that have been de-baffled and rodded sound good. V&H Cruisers sound better but they ain't no where near as cheap as modding stock pipes.  * Suzuki C800, De-Baffle Stock Pipes * 852880
Go with your wallet my friend but if you have other mods that you want to do then do them first.
