PostSubject: Wiring a Healtech X-TRE   Wiring a Healtech X-TRE Icon_minitimeTue Feb 23, 2016 12:43 am

Ordered my XT-S01 X-TRE today. Have downloaded fitting instructions in readiness.
http://www.healtech-electronics.com/docs/XTRE_S01_Manual_en.pdf
Need a little guidance with wiring please. Firstly, it states locate Black wire with dark Green stripe in the ECM (pin 6). Here is a photo I took of where I think it is:
Wiring a Healtech X-TRE IMG_0896a_zps9s9vjg9y
I presume pin 6 is counted up and down from the right. I need to be sure as the wire needs to be cut and the new unit spliced in. Any confirmation here? Unfortunately the directions are just words, no pics!

Secondly, I need to locate the Gear Position Sensor coupler which is on the left somewhere ( under the tank?) but I'm damned if I can see it. Has Blue, Pink and Black/White leads. Any ideas where it is guys?

Final question, I prerferably need to tap into a switched live rather than the battery. What's best - brake light switch?

Thanks - want to get up to speed on this project before I start!

Connector is behind the left hand tat engine case, (where the clutch cable goes) the ECU has numbers either end of the wiring block, (small)  just count along to  identify the wire.

Arrived this morning - only ordered yesterday afternoon - got my forum 10% discount too. Wiring a Healtech X-TRE 3498837457

Thanks Sim. Problem is, numbers do not tally with colour. 6th one is white and now I discover there are two black and greens. Perhaps someone who has already wired the X-Tre can point me in the right direction!

OK, ignore the photo I posted! I re checked the numbering and pin.6 is white and green stripe which is HO2 sensor #2 in the workshop manual '09 - I presume 2013 is the same. I have just sent Norbert an email at Healtech to confirm which actual circuit I should be tapping in to before I start snipping!

The wiring on the ECU changed slightly from 2011 John so I'm not sure which is which? the wire numbers on mine went across ways though, not up and down diagonally, do you have a picture showing the numbers at the ends of both plugs?

Ok Sim here is the info:

Wiring a Healtech X-TRE IMG_0926%20copy_zpsbi3pnpmv

This is my number 6:
Wiring a Healtech X-TRE IMG_0882%20copy_zpsgf142wzx

Now I have another problem: The GPS connectors are 3 pin:
Wiring a Healtech X-TRE IMG_0919a_zpsuzzjidm5

But the only GPS connector  I can find on the bike behind the engine case  is a different shape:
Wiring a Healtech X-TRE IMG_0923a_zpsmh1ie67i

The instructions say I should have a 3 pin connector under the seat but I aint!  I'm beginning to think the installation on the Intruder is more than just plug and play! I know Dave had problems with compatibility but that was way back and apparently they have been made right! It seems this is a one size fits all but I don't think it does! Anyway, input gladly received. I am still waiting on a reply from Healtech. At the moment I am not in a position to install. Shame if it has to be returned!

From what I've read through the forum John  study  it would seem Healtech are supposed to send you two new connectors for the ends of the unit to change them from 3 pin to 6 pin.

Now that would make sense! But there is nothing in the instructions to say VL's need extra parts. Let's see what Healtech say - I have sent pictures of the mis-match. Thanks for spending time on this Sim, much appreciated!

Had email from Healtech. Yes the instructions are wrong - it is wire #31 and not #6! Yes they need to send extra couplers as the kit is not compatible with the Intruder! I have an out if I want. At the moment I've lost confidence that the product will work properly anyway. They have had about 5 years of sending out the wrong kit, without telling customers. I will probably request a refund tomorrow. Shame.

Shall we "name & shame" them?  Wiring a Healtech X-TRE 852880  seriously though, they do get good reviews performance wise once the connection quirks are sorted, should be worth persevering for the enjoyment it'll give in ironing out the earlier mentioned revving problems  Wiring a Healtech X-TRE 3498837457

Went for s ride today. Enjoyable but restricted rev ceiling got to me after a while so bugger it, let's get the bits sent and go ahead as planned. Will tell the seller though that if I get the stuff from Healtech, and it does not perform I will want a refund for supplying incorrect version, even if out of the seven days return period.
Healtec said it would take about 9 days to get the new bits to me, presumably coming Sellotaped to a tortoise!  Wiring a Healtech X-TRE 4160623885

John instead of going for a switched live from brake light, piggy back a terminal from your horn, this way if your not happy or the TRE does not work your wiring is still intact.

What is the "rev limit" on the Intruder?

Dunno - about 7000 rpm? Someone with a tacho might be able to help. All I know is in the first 3 gears, the bike feels it tails off too soon. When you get to 4th, it seems the best gear to me (pull vs speed)I understand the TRE makes the bike think it is in 4th all the time. I hope I'm not expecting too much but it would appear I might be able to use 3rd in town a bit more whereas now I tend to try to get to 4th as quickly as I can. I like the torque of 3rd but it just seems if there should be a bit more to be had. 800cc should be enough power for most riding - as long as it's tuned right. I think it's the sort of bike you can be quite happy pootling on but once in a while, most of us like a waheeey moment!

Had assurances that if extra bits don't work on the Intruder, money will be refunded. Must admit, apart from the initial cock up, Healtech and BDS Racing have given very good support to their products. Just awaiting the extras now so I can crack on with the install. In the meantime it's an IKEA 6 drawer chest with a bag of bits that is bulging, to fill in the time!

Adapters arrived today. I actually have to re wire the 6 pole GPS coupler by taking the 3 wires out and feeding into the supplied male and female plugs. Quite a faff really and far from plug and play. The modified instructions for the Intruder come from the GIpro installation which too requires the connector to be modified. I will suggest to Healtech that it might be a lot simpler to put all the correct bumph in the package the first time round. However I will soldier on and get this X-TRE fitted. Everything can be reversed and the unit returned if it goes pear shaped but fingers crossed, if I stick carefully to the procedure, all should be well. I have Norbert at Healtech on the other end of an email should I need him - helpful chap!

Alfie, I like the idea of tapping into the horn switched live - I still have a couple of piggy backs left over from the relay job I did on my DL. Problem is access to the horn terminals is not easy on our bikes - I will try but might just end up going straight to the battery - the draw is low for this unit and as I ride the Intruder at least once a week throughout the year, if I do go direct, I should hopefully not have any flat battery issues.

Thanks. Actually only 3 wires are to come out; the other 2 stay in and are re connected with the original connector. I had to email to ask this as no mention was made in the blurb. I think I have finally got the procedure in my comfort zone. I like to run it through as a rehearsal. I prefer not to hit unknowns when I'm actually doing the job!
