PostSubject: V&H TwinSlash 18293   V&H TwinSlash 18293 Icon_minitimeFri May 13, 2016 8:21 am

Hello,

I am just getting round to dumping the standard exhaust and Metric Cruisers tell me the V&H TwinSlash is suitable for my 2012 (2 lambda sensors) VL800 Intruder.  It does seem a bit costly at £650 compared with the standard (non lambda bosses) but then again they tell me that they will do a deal if I order it over the phone.  Does anyone know of other suitable pipes for my bike taking it that I want a "rumble" and not a "loud blast"; I am also hoping that these particular pipes give the former so if anyone does know what sound they do make please advise.

Thanks

Bill Bailey

That does sound very expensive at £650. Have you looked at the Vance and Hines  cruzers they go very good with the bike look and sound spot on? If you shop around on the internet you can find them for under £400 or less.  Good luck with your choice.

Something be amiss here!  Suspect  According to their website the exhaust you have been quoted part No.18293 is £423 or £489 (48293) if you want them in black.
How did you enquire, by phone?

I enquired by e-mail and have just checked the link they gave me (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111901044320) and the price is £635 plus postage which is still very expensive.  The only difference I can see is that the cheaper ones don't have 2 lambda bosses fitted? However if that is true they are very expensive holes at near £200 for the pair!
I could be wrong of course but it all seems very confusing for such a simple topic.

So they are too! V&H TwinSlash 18293 249703  If I were you I would go onto their website for a look. I bought these same exhausts myself two years ago and paid circa £400 for them (I'll check the exact price later), I doubt they would have gone up in price by £250 in that amount of time.
By the way, while you are on the site have a look at the Pro pipe too if you are looking for a "Rumble", they cost a bit more but are not as harsh as the slash cuts.

If you buy the V&H TwinSlash from their web site they go in the basket at £423 delivered, just buy them from their website instead of eBay. www.metriccruisers.co.uk/cgi-bin/os000001.pl?ACTION=Start&REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2emetriccruisers%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fexhausts_vl800%2ehtml

Yes I have been on their website and seen the £423 version but have been unable to confirm if that one has 2 Lambda bosses.  As I said before Jon from Metric Cruisers pointed me at the £635 one, before I discovered the cheaper one, and assured me that they did have 2 bosses so I can only assume the £423 ones either have none or 1? which makes them very expensive holes!  I must also admit that I would prefer V&H Cruzers as I like the look of them plus you can get quiet baffles if the standard are too loud.
All I want is an exhaust that is not too loud (rumble not blast) that will fit my bike and enable me to keep both Lambdas - is that too much to ask, am I not speaking English or have I just got the wrong bike?

I bought the ones on the website with the two sensors for £423 for my 2013 M800

Just ring them up, tell them that you are looking at them on the website priced at £423 and tell them you need the two sensor bosses.

Yes thanks I will try and ring them again today to get this sorted.  By the way, as you have them on your bike, how do they sound - are they loud or just right?
Also my bike passed it's MoT yesterday and the mechanic is going to get in touch with a bloke he knows that makes custom stainless exhausts for bikes - so watch this space.

They are loud with the standard straight through baffles in and can sound aggressive under full power, my bike passed it's MOT with them and the tester said he'd passed bikes with louder pipes than them but attitudes differ and it depends where you take it.

I loved them at first but after a while I found them starting to irritate me on long runs at high speed, so I bought a set of "quiet baffles" for them (£100 a pair) but found these a bit too polite so removed them and ripped the wadding off them and stuck them back in.

Perfect, they were a shade quieter and exhaust note was deeper so they didn't "trombone" at me at high revs, the back pressure with them seems to be just right as the bike pulls well through the gears yet breathes nicely further up the rev range.

Well thanks once again Mart, it looks like the Twin Slash for me as you say they appear to get on with the bike; although with the extra cost of quiet baffles, which takes them up to £722 at the price I have been quoted, it is far more than I was hoping to spend so I will have to see what deal I can get.

I will ring Jon, at Metric Cruisers, on Monday as they appear to be closed today.  He also needs to tell me why he reckons the £423 exhaust with the same model number, the same as you have got, won't fit my bike and why I have to spend another £200 on what appears to be the identical exhaust?

I think he's just got his wires crossed Dave, when I rang and ordered mine I gave them the part number on the website and they asked me what year the bike was and then stated that I'd need the two sensor bosses, the price didn't change and I paid £423 plus delivery.

Try them as they come first, you may like them just the way they are as they're rather grin inducing, plus you can always go the quieter baffle route at a later date.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
Also, just to let you know, I have just ordered a V&H Twin Slash Chrome Exhaust from Jon at Metric Cruisers.  He was very patient and very helpful and gave me a really good deal as I got it for £423 which is £200 off the original price he quoted me (although I see they have since dropped that price to £540 on their website now).

So I can thoroughly recommend Metric Cruisers, and especially Jon Chant, as have lots of others on the Forum.

"Warm barrels" as we say in the shooting world.

They haven't dropped them Bill, they've just put them up by over a hundred quid, when I replied to you the other day I checked the website and they were still £423

Now they're £540

Least you got em at the pre price hike price, hope you enjoy them.

I'm intrigued now as to how much a custom stainless steel exhaust would set you back? V&H TwinSlash 18293 1337224149

I was looking at getting a set made for the Katana a few years back - the guy I was speaking to said about £400 for a 4-2-1-2 (it had a cross-flow section under the engine) plus whatever end-cans I decided on - so probably another couple of hundred or so.  The Pipes on the Kat were a more complex than the Intruder, & usually don't have end-cans (OK, so mine do), so I'd guess you'd probably be looking at 4-500

If that were the case, I think thats the path I'd be going down if I was on the lookout for a set of after market pipes these days.
