I just joined the forum today having bought my first Intruder M800 only a few days ago. Ive yet to put any miles on it thanks to work but hope to get out on it this weekend. On riding it back from the bike shop i have to say i wasnt really impressed with the low volume purring from the exhaust. Having rode sports prior to this it was nice (safe) to let the cagers know i was inbound. So this week ive set about looking up after market exhausts. Im not looking for 1000 decibels just something to put a bit more grunt into the bike. Ive seen many posts and videos for this bike stating that drilling 4 holes into each of the plates will do just the job.

Im just wanting to know if this will affect the back pressure and will it make a noticeable difference when riding from a performance perspective. Is there any long term issues caused by doing this and will it affect the sensors that are plugged into the current pipes. Apologies for the naiveness but its my first bike of this sort with such an exhaust

Hi Dave a few have done this mod and had no problems. If you are after aftermarket pipes in the future the ones I had fitted to mine were V and H Cruzers  good pipes and fit well. John (bluesman) is the man to ask for exhaust advise.

I would avoid holes on the backplate - they don't make much difference to the sound and look a bit diy! Take a long sharpened tube and bash it down the middle through two baffle plates - the sound will be louder and deeper. Drill if you prefer and have the tools. After that a full debaffle is the next stage using metal hole saws. Bear in mind you will not be able to reverse the result but it will not harm the bike and the bike's management system will make any small adjustments needed. The lambda Co2 sensors will still function OK.
