| Hi to all, I have fancied a V twin for a long time and have today collected a VX800, its 26yr old and with just 17k, it obviously has not seen a lot of attention, pics to follow. The engine runs but only on one cylinder, the bike is complete apart from the cover to the fuel tap.
I will be needing help with technical issues and advice where to obtain spares, the short list at the moment will be, discs and pads, tyres, exhaust- the previous owner has welded patches to the silencers, plug leads, I will be updating in the projects section but firstly I need to get it to run on two cylinders. | |

| Nice to see another 'VX' joining the forum .... well worth persevering with, they are a pleasant 'all-rounder' once you've got it in good running order. Just for quick rundown I'd say the following (But you should really post questions in the relevant section) :- Check the ignition system (coils & HT leads first) Make sure you have a spark at the 'non-firing' cylinder. Fuel tap covers are available, but tend to be pricey for just a piece of plastic. I think there are other Suzuki models that had a similar cover (But can't remember which from the top of my head). Discs & pads are no problem - there are various aftermarket options .... or look for good second hand. Exhausts might be harder to find. Motad did make one - but I doubt they are still in production ..... but again there is the second hand market, and some 'specialists' that could help. The 'VX' was originally fitted with 'Bias Ply' tyre, whilst these are OK, they tend to be expensive and radial tyres are not that much more expensive ...... I ran my bias ply tyres down to legal limit then put on a pair of radials ..... & having done so would not go back to Bias Ply tyres on the VX. Cheers Yam | |
