| Does anyone know off or have an old bike they do not want etc, not fussed on its condition as long as it is roughly complete. I just want something to strip down and get going with minimum cost. My ideal would be an older single or parallel twin, min 250cc, a simple cheap bike that I can play with and not worry about it looking like new, if its got a bit of rust and some dents, that's fine, as long I can get it running and pass its MOT that's all really.
Just thinking out loud really, not much more I can do or want to do to the VX really, I did think about changing the front end to twin discs but I decided to keep her stock, besides if I have two bikes, I will always have a bike to ride if I am doing work on the other one, that's my 'Man Logic' justification anyway :)

| Good luck with that. If I had more free time I`d be doing similar. (enough unfinished jobs nagging at my conscience wi`out starting another)! Prices for older/simpler projects on eBay are frightening tho. Guess there`s a lot of us with similar ideas. | |

Yes - people sometimes ask silly process for 'projects' & 'unfinished projects', but if you cast a wide net .... & keep your eye & ears receptive, then if you have patience something 'right' will come along. In the meantime it's good to do 'homework' on anything that takes your fancy. I'm sure Andrew will find something to suit his needs.

| XBR500 would be ideal, but I cannot afford one. I will keep looking, if you guys could keep a lookout as well please, not sure how much I want to spend really, it depends on what it is I suppose. I agree with what has been said, I'm in no rush, have the fun is finding it! Some of the 'project' bikes on ebay are junk and not worth the asking price. I think Preloved and Gumtree may offer a better option, any other ideas?? | |

| Hi Andrew, have you thought about a Virago, these are going for reasonable prices on ebay and are a nice simple bike, spares are plentifull and can be rebuilt in quite a few styles plus an added bonus is being a "V" twin they sound good with decent pipes on...

Although this one may not be of any help, but then it all depends how far you want to do a rebuild,

| Hi guys, the buying of projects and barn finds is where I usually get my bike from! The bike I'm working on at the moment is my VS750! I only purchased it last week, it belonged to a friend of mine and the last time it was used was when we had that biker meet on top of horseshoe pass where there was thousands of bikers present, this particular bike is a 1987 VS750 in black, with rather a noisy top end rattle? On the front cylinder, Sounds like it's dropped a rocker shaft or something around the valve area? BUT it came with a complete spare engine! Just been cleaning the shed ready for engine out and look see if I can find the problem? It also came with brand-new clutch, brand-new driver seat never fitted, all of the chrome work was sprayed with grease before being put away, so is in pretty good condition and the cost??? Wait for it £300 and that's the real deal LOL but I've had better deals than that if anyone's interested? I will get some photos taken of it and posted on here, | |
