2001 to 2004 were 'carbed' so they'd require a few parts swapping over,. 2005 to 2008 were 'fuel injected' but with less wiring for sensors than later models and only had 2 spark plugs,, 2009 to 'present day' all should be fine and probably a straight swap, there might be a couple of things updated due to EU regulations? But nothing that can't be salvaged from your existing 16 engine.

M800 from 2009 to present day should be the same too. (apart from black casings)

Guys I have found a 2006 VL 800 Volusia complete bike, how much extra work would be needed to put this engine in to my bike ?

Thanks

The only thing I'd watch for is emissions. That 2006 motor complete will not make 2016 emissions standards so will be an MOT fail in a year or so, but I guess you could keep the engine but swap over all the ancillaries from your present engine.

How many miles on the engine?
Running low on oil?

A 2016 plate is so new, I’m wondering what’s wrong and how it happened.
