| Anyone any experience of a rack & topbox for an M800?
I have small leather panniers but theyre limited in what they'll hold.
So am considering a top box - there are 100s on Ebay, and what look like some keen prices. The pricey bit is the rack to sit the box on!
Seen this on Ebay...

Cant argue with £67 inc shipping. And as many of the boxes have padded backrests now, would give Mrs Bigmal some back support, and offer helmet storage etc - all for a similar cost to just a sissybar.

| Hi Mal the price is good as you say,if you are willing to take the chance it is worth it,the good thing is you can always beef the joints up a bit with of metal fabrication, also if the chrome starts to come off you can always paint it.I am giving you my personal views, but as I said it sounds like a good solution for you,I use a top box at times, what I have is my old Givi plate which I attatch to my rack, after I have taken the sissy bar off,in my case with the sissy bar sloping towards the back you have to take it off to put a top box on.A top box does give you a lot more storage, one thing to bear in mind is size,if there are two of you then look for a box to accomadate two helmets. Most if not all come with their own fixing plates, so also try and get the measurements of the fixing plate to make sure it will fit the rack.Hope this helps,I personally do not mind what the bike looks like as long as it does it's job,why carry a bag on your back when you can utilise a top box instead. | |

| That does seem a good price even with postage although the British government will up the price slightly as will the post office but even then it would be a good price | |

| Nice one crash. Hadn't thought of that. That may well take it up to £80 or whatever, so might be better looking at this for £88, and it's quality German gear but shipped from uk.
These cheap ideas always have a habit of getting pricier by the minute!

| Lovely looking rack but not a lot of good for a top box due to the curve | |

| Agree with Crash 100% these are fairly cosmetic in the fact the way they are shaped,I feel you would need a rack to accomadate a plate to use with a top box.The good thing about these boxes is the fact that one turn of a key releases the top box so you dont always have to have them fitted.Good luck on your quest.Ask the seller if there are any import duties to be paid, usually it is mainly America not the far east that charge, but a simple email will sort the querey out for you. | |

Bit of both really.... want better carry capacity & ideally a backrest for Mrs Bigmal. UPDATE: did a quick trawl on Ebay late last night... TOP TIP: type in a deliberate spelling mistake! You sometimes find good items with few watchers or bidders, because few people have found the item. So I found an item listed as PANIER SADLEBAGS (2 typos for the price of one). They looked very similar to the high gloss black hard panniers discussed on here recently. So with 5 minutes to go, and bids at £11, I scooped new panniers for £13.50 (plus p&p). They wont solve the top box/backrest issue, but will offer storage which is less ratty than my old leather numbers, is lockable, keeps the damp out better etc. If they're ny good when fitted I'll post a pic. cheers

| I'll decide how lucky when they arrive!!! To all members though, that idea of searching Ebay for mis-spellings often works well! | |

| That really is a very kind offer. I'm still undecided on the rack, having got hard panniers now... so I'm currently getting my head round bodging some brackets for those. It might even be that the rack would be the best way to go, if the side rails would carry brackets for the panniers as well. Pity you arent closer, or I'd come & have a loook. What kinda money you wanting? Might be worth a punt anyway! Do you know if the centres will fit an M800 (213mm between centres from memory). Whatever the outcome, thanks again for very kind offer & time & trouble posting pic etc! | |

| The gap is adjustable on the sides, and it was last used on my fzx Yamaha. As I say, it's a bit ratty, and kind of in the way in the garage, so just pay me the postage. I have no idea what that would be, I would have to find out. If you want to give it a miss, it's cool, I may smarten it up and ebay it in the future. | |

| That's a really kind offer. Knowing that the Royal Mail Robbers have just put their prices up it might be crazy to post it. I think I'll pass, only because I don't know whether I'd have the skills to make it fit. So I think you should tart it up & get it on Ebay - after all a chap needs a project!! Thanks again for really kind offer. Proof once more that | |

| Cool, no probs. We have to be aware of postage now, even when buying from the USA, those good deals may have hidden costs with postage. | |
