| Im going to be drilling 3 holes through the baffle plate at the end of each exhaust then going through the next baffle plate wich is about 5 to 6 inches further along although doing this is not a problem i want it to look like it came out the factory like it i considerd drilling the holes then puting a rivit in the hole then drilling a hole through the rivit so that when painted black it would look like a neet job rather than just a drilled hole but after drilling the rivit it might be loose and rattle not good . i would like it to look like say a rivit but with the whole i the middle then i thought maybe i could get a rivit and cut of the back bit so that you have the nice slopeing bit to put on the exhaust around the hole but then youd have to glue it in place is this possible ( im not sure ). as of now i have a few other idears but not sure if there possible eather so can anyone help or think they might know of a way this can be acheeved dont have to be with a rivit any feedback or idears would be much appreacated thanks | |

| One way is drill/punch down the middle of all plates, that way you will keep the end plate looking like new and still get a better sound. Another way is to debaffle and then replace the end plate by having one made up using the baffle ends you take out. You can even gut the pipes and still replace the end plate. As long as the end plate looks standard, 'prying eyes' will be non the wiser. First off I would recommend going right down the middle using a sharpened metal stake with a tommy bar to make extraction easy - it will be very hard to see you have done this by looking through the end pipe. Bear in mind there is no going back once you have done this - that is why many on here have gone down the aftermarket route and kept the stock pipes intact. After that if you want more sound you probably would be best to debaffle as the holes around the outside tend to give a rather high pitched sound IMO although some people like it. You will find posts on this forum for all exhaust mods. Just ask if you need any more help or advice. | |

| If you are determined to use rivets, the make a plate to cover the holes you are going to drill with your rivet pattern in.(sorted) Hope this helps. | |

| that tought went through my mind john was thinking of drilling a 10mm drill bit strait down the middle like you say cant go back after the main plan was just to let it breath a bit easyer as they say not to fussed about the sound but prefer bass line than trebble may just hammer a stake down there done it on a xv750se 1981 that i had about 3 years ago may do some small holes in the end and punch trough cant make up my mind how much louder it will make it but down the middle will be the job to keep it conseeled hhhhmmmmm will mull it over for a while also thanks for idear alfie92 the more input the better | |

| Not sure what the sound will be like with just a central hole - I did mine after I made the small holes in the back plate. It was a nice sound but I felt a bit uneasy after a time with the holes visible. It sort of says 'Hey everyone I've modified my exhaust!' Bear in mind that an exhaust with visible holes in it can technically fail the MOT as it is perforated. I don't think the inside of the pipes are looked at when testing. | |

| If you want it to look legal forget drilling a few holes in the end plate, just belt a big pole down the middle and be done with it! | |

| MOT Exhaust Requirements
Reason for Rejection
A - Any part of the exhaust system missing or excessively deteriorated B - A leak in the exhaust system which causes excessive noise to be emitted C - A silencer that is in such a condition or is of such a type that the noise emitted is clearly in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted D - A silencer marked ‘NOT FOR ROAD USE’, ‘TRACK USE ONLY’ or similar words.
NOTE - The laws regarding stamps such as the requirement for BS or EU-marking on the exhaust silencer is no longer in force.
