| Been Googling away and cant find any open face BT enabled helmets at a decent price, so - maybe as a temporary fix - I've ordered this bluetooth receiver, which will pair with either my mp3, phone or satnav. That will live in my jacket pocket And I will plug into that a pair of these which get better reviews than many I've seen, and have an inline volume control which is useful.
So all in, a £30 solution.... Whether its a case of "you get what you pay for" OR "simple effective solution" remains to be seeen! when the bits & pieces arrive, I'll report back on quality etc. | |

| UPDATE: Helmet speakers arrived very quickly so installed them in helmet today.... 1) Tried to figure out position of my ears in the helmet by poking my fingers into them! Not easy, so in the end just decided to fit the speakers in the natural ear recess in the helmet - after all, my ears seem to fit into that! It actually looks very low down in the photo, but it is in line. 2) Took out main velcro fixed inner lining (just one piece on my helmet) 3) decided not to chop into fabric lining of helmet in "ear recess", instead just fixed the speakers to the fabric using the supplied self adhesive/velcro ring shaped pad 4) Gaffer taped wires to helmet inner to reduce any cable strain 5) Popped velcro helmet lining back in to hide most of the wiring, and routed end of speaker wires with jack plug behind cheek pad to keep them tidy. FEEDBACK: Plugged in ipod to test the speakers.... sound quality is way better than I expected. With ipod set to MAX and Inline volume control set to MAX sound level is plenty high enough I think (although till bike MOTd cant test on road). We shall see how durable the "non destructive" install is, or whether in time the speakers will get disturbed as I take helmet on and off. All I need now is the bluetooth receiver to arrive.... come on Amazon!!! PS: If you want to prove to your kids that you're ready for the loony bin, walk round the kitchen in your crash helmet listening to your ipod! | |

| Good write up Mal I did the same install with the headset on Jo's helmet (she wears full faced as to not scare children ) they seem to work fine in those ear recesses, I'm after a new open faced helmet as the 3/4 one I use has no cut outs for the ears and the speaker is touching my ear and becomes irritating after a while. | |

| Cheers Sim.... I can still feel the speakers against my ears - even though they only reduce the space in the ear recesses by a few mill each side, so I definitely wouldnt want to fit them in a helmet with no ear recess. Didnt realise some helmets had no ear recess - so thanks for the heads up - thats one to watch out for if ever I shop for a new helmet. | |

| Good one Mal, really unusual and novel way around the alternative of the expense of having to swap out and buy an uneaded new bluetooth helmet | |
