Help please with replacement VZ800 Ignition Switch

Hi my ignition switch has packed up and i have another switch but its not for my vz800 marauder dont know what it is for it has 4 wires black green red and a black with white tracer also it has no park position just on off so can any one tell me what i need to do to wire it into my vz

Jason its in possible to give advice on an ignition switch if we don't know where it has come from, if we new where it came from we could search a pdf wiring diagramme and work it out. Although even with that said, I have just had a look at the vz800 wiring diagrame and that also only has 4 wires going to the ignition so it is a good bet that it will work but as already said without knowing where it came from no body can give a definative answer as to what order the wires from your VZ should go on the switch that you aquired. Sorry mate, wish I could have been a little more posative. Trial and error may be your only way if you are determined to use that switch but that could be dodgy.

Hi thanks for the quick reply i have been told the new switch is of a ktm and my vz has 5 wires orange red grey orange/red and brown

Ah then I apologise for giving the wrong info but I have just looked at the wiring diagramme again and still only count 4 wires, so I am confused :what1:

Just been reading this and I am not sure what we are missing as the pdf in the Clymer manual shows 4 wires. How very confusing?

I do not have access to a 1997 vz800 manual but I have checked the newer vz800 manual - vs800 and the old and new vl800 manuals and they all run on 4 wires so they must have run the one model with a different wiring setup. I will bow out of this one as it is beyond me, sorry
