Can't you use scotch lock connectors using the live and earth going to the back of auxiliary socket? it would leave the aux socket free for other things then.

Good idea Sim but I've just done a bit more research and it turns out that the front aux port is not switched live its always on, only the rear socket and aux in the top box (neither of which I have) are engine-on live. So it would be useful to use the front socket for the amp as I can just unplug it when I leave the bike.

Thats a DIN socket, a lot of trucks have them. They are like cigarette power points but smaller.
