| Just what I needed there Dave cheers mate, quick question though....when replacing the rear wheel is there anything to look out for in terms of the mating surfaces? Might sound thick here but what locks the wheel to the final drive assembly?
Cheers,
Jim. | |

| Cheers Jim. No mate nothing that locks the wheel into place when fitting it. Just lift the rear wheel into place and pull it over to the left until it is sat inside the drives splines & push the axle through. | |

| Hi Kevin, Try taking the weight of the wheel of the spindle by lowering the jack till the wheel is touching the floor, leave the nut on the end of the spindle to protect the threads and tap with a sideways on hammer until it's released, failing that remove the top silencer to gain better access | |

| Remove Two Allen Bolts from between the silencers then undo the clamp nut at the front of the silencer it's sort of underneath round the back. | |

| You might want to disconnect the o2 sensor plug if your removing the silencer and placing to one side, It's behind the right side panel just follow the wire from the sensor on the top silencer. | |

| Managed to remove top silencer and O2 sensor. Loosed bottom and got a spanner on the axel nut. Wheel removed. I'm not looking forward to putting it back together or paying another £140 if it can't be plugged. Tyre replaced only a couple of months ago with Michelin commander ggrrr... Thanks Sim. | |

| as long as the tyre is not damaged on the sides you should be able to get it fixed is even better if the hole is in the tread when fixing because the plug fixed bit wont wear down as the tyre does if you had had slime or the like in ya tyre it would probably still be ok to ride on ohhh the what if's in life lol hopefully you can have it fixed | |

| Get a plug kit and do it yourself Kev, it won't cost much more than having it plugged and you can throw it in the panniers in case you get another puncture | |

| I put in ultraseal in repair. Thought it had fixed it but it didn't. Oh well. Might have to clean that out before they plug it. | |

| Question regarding weight distribution when removing parts such as the rear wheel. Thanks for posting the above - this is my first machine and I am keen to do a major clean over the winter being able to remove the rear wheel (and seeing how easy it is) is good news. I have a flat based jack and holds up the bike really nice - when the rear wheel comes off do I need to think how this will effect the balance on the bike and therefore where I position the jack in the first place. Or any other tip really for jacking up the bike. | |

It's always worth strapping the bike down just to be on the safe side but the bike stays steady enough when removing a wheel, I usually put something under the remaining wheel just to take the weight of any off balance.

Piece of cake. However, I recommend using a proper bike lift that fits under the frame - the wider the bed, the better. Make sure you mark the exact position of the brake cam on the splines before you remove it - get it wrong & you're going to have to take it off to re-position it
