I know most people bypass this relay and just use the starter switch to activate the "main" starter" relay. However, Suzuki must have had some reason for using a relay to activate another relay. Even though there are known issues with wiring and connectors, the elimination of a relay cannot be good. The additional load is now being handled by the starter switch.
One of the previous owners already bypassed my SCR (starter control relay). I am in the car audio field so I removed the OE SCR and retro-fitted a Bosch type relay and socket. A Bosch type relay can be found just about anywhere (literally), so if the relay ever gives me trouble (which I doubt due to its very short use during starting), it can be swapped out in 5 minutes.
My relay even had a metal tab which I put on "upside down" so I could reuse the OE rubber mount. Worked out perfect!
How do I upload pix? I have some on Photobucket.
