| When I get home in a few months I am going to have a custom exhaust (among other things) made for my bike as I can't find anything for the '01 VX800 like it. This is a basic idea of what I'm wanting but I will end up doing a black wrap on it. Now I was originally planning on doing a Stage II jet kit from spacerjim, but after doing some research, it's actually cheaper to do the Stage III due to the fact that the clamp on filters are cheaper. And I might as well get some extra power out of it! So this brings me to my issue. I have some experience with carbs, but I'm far from an expert, especially with the Mikunis. The basic setup I'm looking at is: Front: 42.5 Pilot Jet 145 Main jet Rear: 47.5 Pilot 155 Main That combined with Mikuni adjustable needles and opening up the slide vacuum hole. I was also going to order a couple smaller and larger main jets for tweaking in case I don't get the right mix with the 145/155. All parts would be Mikuni. Does anyone with jetting experience think this is a good starting point? I know each bike is different so there's no telling for sure, just looking for a baseline. The exhaust would be a full system so obviously a little more free-flowing than my stock debaffled pipes. I appreciate any and all help you guys can give me! | |

| Well I went ahead and ordered the clamp ons and the jet kit. I got some spare Main jets (140, 142.5, 147.5, 150, 152.5, 157.5) in case I need to do any tweaking when I get it all put together. The smaller jets will also help if there's any delay in getting the exhaust made. I can just run them with my stock debaffled exhaust unless someone knows of any kind of swept exhaust or down-turns that fit the '01 VZ800. | |

| Hello Dan, I experimented with the carbs and jetting on my VZ800 ( The VX800 i believe uses the same engine and carbs as a VZ800 ) and to be honest with you i found it a pain in the arse, i had it in effect stage 3 and it drank fuel like it was going out of fashion, I too bought an array of mikuni needle jets and pilot jets and main jet needles, but if you read the advise on american forums they often say you need to buy adjustable jet needles but UK spec/euro spec VZ 800 already have 5 groove adjustable needles fitted and you may find your VX 800 already has adjustable jet needles also. As i said i did tune it but was not happy with it and if used aggressively i got 31 mpg that's 68 miles from full tank to reserve which was crap for me on longer runs,,,, in the end i put it all back to stock and lifted the stock jet needles up one grove with modified standard pipes and the bike was reborn midrange was brought to life and MPG went back to 50 mpg. That said i think you are on the right track with what jetting you intend to do to your VX800. As the VX800 is a shaft drive sit up and beg style bike i personally don't think those lovely sweeping pipes you intend to get made, depicted in you picture, would suit the bike,, i think they are more of a cruiser pipe. you may have more luck with a specialist site for the VX800 but please keep us updated on this site i would like to know how you get on

| Crap, typo on my part. I do have the VZ800 not the VX. And right now with it stock I'm only getting around 35MPG so I can't really do much worse than I already am. I'm sure my carbs are full of crap causing my mileage issues as they've never been truly cleaned. When I bought the bike it had been sitting for a year and they were gummed up so they got cleaned enough to get it going and that's been it. I figure I can give the tune a shot (might as well since I already ordered everything) after I give the carbs a thorough cleaning. If I get better mileage, great! If I get the same mileage, then it's still a win for me. So what do you think of the sweepers on the VZ? In my mind I think they'll look good but other opinions are always appreciated! | |

| AH-HA,,, VZ it is then,, yes i think the sweepers will look really good on the bike,,, 35mpg is terrible on a stock VZ so if ya going to strip them to clean then you may as well change the jetting. I would advise you to get a stainless steel replacement carb screw kit as the original screws may as well be made of chocolate, the screw heads can round out very easily and you may have to open up the carbs several times, the VZ has twin carbs with about 6 cables joining them together and are a pain to work on/remove but get slightly easier the more times you do it,,, many people even have trouble removing the tank. I would also advise you to adjust the valve clearances' whilst you have the carbs off as you need to remove the carbs to gain access to the valves and you will need the use of a carb balancing tool. Good luck mate. | |

| Good deal. Yeah I ordered the stainless steel allen head screws with the jet kit. I'll have to look at doing the valve clearances too, hadn't thought of that. Guess I need to invest in a carb balancing tool, either that or just make one out of a yardstick and plastic tubing... | |

| yes Dan i made my own and it works fine, if you look on the spacerjim site it will show you how to do the valve clearences, or look on " Joe`s maruder page" there may be stuff on there to help you.

| So I was looking around and saw an M50 with a custom pipe job. This thing is awesome! I would probably modify the design a bit just to provide for more of a lean angle though. What do you guys think? | |

| Now that is one seriously cool bike and I suppose if the pipes are wrapped you could get away with all sorts of ugly joins. Love it love it luuuuuuv it | |

| He didn't even do a bad job with the joins. Where they expand into the big pipes you can see what looks like a clamp, but it may just be artistic crap on it. | |

| All I know is that I want it! I don't care if the wife thinks it looks "huge and kinda wormy." Like she said, it's my bike. And I figure I can throw some baffling glass in the pipes to keep the fuzz happy (plus my eardrums, but I live and work on a flightline so they're shot anyways). This was just one of those things that as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. | |

| What an incredible job he has done, the best aftermarket pipes I have ever seen on an 800 bar non. They would generate an incredible sound. | |

| Best part was when he posted his inspiration for the pipes. Just have to make a trip to Brasil to see the bike in person! | |

| Anyone good with photoshop? I'm wondering how it would look with a 2 into 1 pipe, just to create more lean clearance. | |
