Tappet noise from engine.

I am getting a tappet noise from my engine. I took it to a reputable dealer in town and they told me that it was normal for this type of bike and nothing to worry about. I have a 1994 VS800 Intruder. I have a windshield on the bike and they said that when you have a windshield, you hear more noises than normal. Bought the bike about 3 months ago. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Our bikes do shake, rattle and rock as standard :}

My bike was only a 2009 and it made a noise but that's normal

They are correct on both counts Bill.

Put on a nice loud exhaust and you won't hear the rattles

That solved all my mechanical problems too     

LOL. Sounds like lousd exhaust is the way to go to get away from the noises. The only problem with that is when something Major is wrong.  I will never know until it is too late.  Thanks guys.

Sorry but these noises that you have noticed are very common and the valves which make these noises should be checked periodically when servicing as per the manual. if they are checked when they should be, all should be good.
