| Gents
Need you advice. I want some apes and have been looking at 10" apes. Reason being, I am hoping that there will be no need to extend any of the cables. I'm trying to keep the cost down as the Mod fund is getting a bit low. Does any one know if i would be able to get away with it. Cheers Gents.

| Someone will confirm but I think you can get away with 14" without cable extensions. Saying that, you got a new model that has shorter cables.
I'd risk saying that 10" will be more than fine. That's hardly going up.

| Hi Arron, You'll get away with the Clutch cable by re routing it, You'd have to get longer Throttle cables unless they can be re routed, but I doubt there'd be enough length even then , You'd need a longer brake hose and extend your wiring for 10" Apes. | |

| :what1: Oh dear, I am not happy to dismiss what other members have said but for clarity I will do it anyway: I'm not saying I know everything but the following is what I believe to be true. You will never get away with a 14" ape hanger bars in a million years without massive changes, I have fitted 14" apes myself. Brake cables + Brake hose + throttle cables + will need to be changed + electrics on both sides will need splicing & extending + clutch cable will need re-routing . (- LINK -)As long as you are not putting on higher risers than stock or greater pull-back risers you will be able to fit 10" apes without any real issue. | |

| No worries Marcin. Crash you can't fit 12" apes on a 2013 model, that was just the very early models. | |

| I'm happy to be corrected But, lol I'm innocent until proven guilty Here's my explanation on my doubts of fitting 10" Apes, (theory, as I've never fitted them) Stock bars are roughly a 5" rise throw in 2" risers (as I've done) and the cable's,wiring, and brake pipe become pretty tight and at their maximum stretch for my own comfort. So with the 10" Apes with stock risers your needing another 3" of play, Clutch cable's fine, re route and alls good (proved by Dave) Brake pipe, Even run round the back of the triple tree would only give 2" more play, Throttle cables, They could be run on the right side of the headstock to give more free play but not something I'd like to play with due to safety reasons (throw the safety card ) Wiring, It's pretty stretched at 2", yes, gain a couple of Inches by going behind the triple tree again but it's a bit of a direct route and not very aesthetically pleasing IMO. ps. I'd love some Apes on mine without doubt, so someone please prove me conclusively wrong so I can crack on with ordering some | |

| Can't do conclusive I am afraid, only know what people have said. Nothing from personal experience apart from the extensive work I did to fit the 14" apes, well worth it though all the same. I do believe that the cables got shorter twice in the mid 2000's. The problem we have is that one person will be happy with a cable at it's limit while another wants some slack. Each to their own though. | |

| I got the long ass cables on mine but I reckon I'll replace all the cables anyway. They're 10 years old now... and don't look so nice overall. | |

| OK well I have just been out to the workshop & taken some measurements from my now knackered (since my crash) 14" rise ape hanger bars. I also took some measurements from my now replaced stock C800 cruiser bars & I still stand by what I said. Measuring from riser clamps to the end of the bars when a reduction of 4" was taken into account for the higher rise over Arron's proposed 10" raised ape hanger bars. My calculations have worked out that the cables will be stretched 2-3/4" more than they currently are on the stock bars due to shape changes between the bars. Anyway from my calculations it means that the cable differences would be equalised by doing no more than adding only an extra 2-3/4" over stock riser to the triple tree compared to adding 10" apes. I am not trying to convince you to do anything, just making my findings known. (Could be wrong though) | |

| This all sound promising. Thanks Gents for all you input.
If i had to extend everything, then i may as well get bigger Apes. I could get 1" Risers, but this would raise the cost and im not sure if i would get any benifit from the Apes. The reason im going for Apes is because at the mo, when I'm ridding my arms are fully extended and can get quite uncomfortable after a lond ride. So im hoping that the 10" Apes will cure this. My 125 Virago had 10" Apes as standard and i know there not masive but I found it very comfortable, as the position om my wrists was more relaxed (set myself up for wankers cramp jokes there i think).
Will do a bit more digging around i think, to see how much off a difference there will be with 10". i.e rise and rake ect.
Or could all this be solved with new risers. Which for some reason are more expensive than new Bars???
5" Risers? would these fit and need cables extended. This are well cheap and I'm a bit dubious about there quality, would hate to be ridding down the road and then relise my handle bars are not attached to the bike. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=suzuki%20intruder%20risers Again all your help is welcomed. | I agree with Marcin, 14" or 16" would look like the proper jobby. Small apes can look just that, small. It's a big bike so big after-markets are required.

| Agreed Dave Arron, I have some of those risers but in 4", your welcome to have them FOC if you pay the postage, You could give them a try and see how much wiring and cable you have to play with? If you feel there's enough free play then go ahead and order the 10" Apes and fit them, Then I get to know for certain whether I can order some 10" for my bike ps. does anyone have a link for 10" Apes? | |

| Cheers for those Arron , I think the dimples are to allow the wiring to come out underneath the switch clusters on the bars? could be wrong though. The reason I've never fitted them is because they touched the speedo housing at full lock, only slightly but I couldn't be bothered trying to alter or ajust them as I'd already ordered some spiked risers which I preferred and fitted instead. PM me you address, I'm going to the Post Office tomorrow to renew my photo card licence so I'll send them at the same time, we'll sort the postage at a later date as I've no idea what it will be lol. | |

| Looking at those pictures in your links Arron kinda makes sense of the difference of opinions by Mr Intruder and Simbo on fitting 10" apes. The difference in shapes could really make a difference on fitment, fitting one of those could be fine where as fitting another could possibly not be due to the huge differences | |
