| *Installed a relay under the seat. (There are two plastic tabs sticking up at 90 degrees from the battery tray. I drilled a hole on one tab and bolted in the relay). *Installed a 6 way fuse holder on the bracket inside the right plastic side panel and also a loose fit plastic box to hold all the negative return wires. - This was wired to the Battery negative.
*Wired the relay to the Battery Positive and to the fuse box and wired across the terminals on one side ( temporary until I can find something better).
*Crimped a male spade connector to a length of wire and connected the Positive Pin in the spare outlet in the headlamp shell to the under-seat relay as a trigger feed.
*Removed rubber hand-grips and installed Oxford Hot Grips:
*Remove the OE hand-grips and the plastic spacers / trim and throttle side 'O' ring. These are boxed in case I want to go back to original.
*I opted to cut (hacksaw) the threaded ends of the hot grips off and this enabled refitting the original weighted bar ends.
*The wiring causes a problem as the cables are always too long. I tucked the excess wiring under the Speedo housing so it looks neater than wrapping it in a bundle at the headstock.
*The "Hot grips" supply and negative wires were taken under the tank to a connector in the fuse box and to the adjacent earth-box.
Everything tested out O.K.
Next job is to wire in the Sat-Nav, but that's on hold until the cable arrives in the post. This too will be wired to the fuse box and earth box and like the hot grips will only get a live feed when the ignition is "on".

| Nice job there Tom...you obviously know what you are doing.
I remember some years back fitting new hot grips and they were a bit too long and I needed to trim the end....next thing I am looking at some frayed wires I have managed to cut through....oh dear ...another set of grips needed !

| Sounds good Tom, Good idea cutting the ends off and using the stock Bar Weights Are your Heated Grips the ones with the "auto cut out" after ten mins? ,I have some on my bandit and wired them straight to the battery (permanent live) so I could switch them on five mins before going for a ride to pre warm, very little draw on the battery and switch themselves off if I forget or someone messes with them?. | |
