Hey folks

Hey folks! My name is Barry, and I live in Ohio. Came across this sight while doing some reading up on the 2001 VS800GL I just bought, (only 3100 miles on it!), since it's currently winter and below freezing temps here and I can't even rider her yet! I haven't owned a bike in nearly 20 years, but the wife and I have been chomping at the bit to afford one again, so I couldn't pass up this deal, (always marked down in the winter here). Was hoping you all wouldn't mind another obnoxious Yank on here asking questions about some much needed info I'm sure over the duration? Will post a pic when I figure out how.

To Dave R's question; of course I signed up for the Trans-Atlantic ribbing! Just adds to the fun of owning the bike! And I was at least able to get a pic uploaded by shrinking one down as my avatar for now, until I figure the rest out. It's not COMPLETELY bone stock as listed, if you count the windshield, saddle bags and chrome radiator cover the original owner bolted on, but mechanically it's all stock. To Ardie; thanks for the invitation from Ireland! I'm sure I'll have some questions once the weather breaks here and I get to toy around with my new toy! So far all I've done was change plugs and drop the battery last weekend to install the permanent connector cables for the battery tender I bought. I've got about six more weeks before I can really get out and dive in.

Thanks for the subsequent welcomes gents! Just wanted to say how much more pleasant things appear to come across on this forum than some of the arseholes I've seen on some other forms! I've been doing a fair bit of reading up on my new bike (as I noted due to the cold weather here and NOT riding yet!), and Google brings up a fair amount of postings I've read on other forums related to certain topics. One thread had multiple people responding like complete jerks because some kid asked about what would be the best oil to use in his bike! Like they were above answering the question AGAIN, and made fun of him like they were oh so superior in their knowledge! Thanks for not being "those guys"!

Don't worry you wont find any "I have a 600cc turbo charged sports bike and its way faster than yours" brigade on here! we all love to ride, tinker and bitch! if you know anything about knitting or housework you will also find many like minded under the thumb friends

Good on y'all for the updates! Just happy I haven't ran across any brats on here! The Mrs. was actually doing the knitting while I read the last posts, but I have hung a few drapes, as John intoned. Mostly I put a lot of things together, and a fair amount of bitching to go with it! Otherwise I leave the house stuff to her discretion. She's better at the pretty stuff!

Thanks Justin! I'm a mix of Scots-Irish and a little German by heritage, so apparently I haven't fallen far from the tree across the pond! Positive I'd fancy a ride-about anywhere on the continent over there!
