Dissected view of a stock VL/M800 Silencer

Here's a view of a stock VL/M 800 Exhaust Silencer that's been dissected, The end plate (far end) has been removed completely with a hole cutter and both 1st & 2nd plates have been drilled/punched (centrally), looks like they went through the catalytic converter with the bar/drill too, if you look closely, you'll see a layer of rockwool type stuff between the inner and outer layers of the silencer, that's probably to reduce heat transfer and stop the outer chrome going blue, hope this gives some insight to what's inside the silencers

The cat seems to be held on by 2 welds - hmmm that might come in useful if I decide to remove mine! Is it one you did earlier Sim?
