| T'awd lad over the road had one of them, he was a bit short in the leg for it though and dropped the bugger on his knee while in the Isle of Man, said it was a good mile muncher though. | |

| Just been to look the bike over so Andrew has a heads up before he goes to either collect it or pay for it. Not bad at first looks till you notice all the scratches, paint chips & scuffs n marks here n there. Seriously though apart from a few little marks here n there it's fairly mint for a 7 year old bike so I think Andrews going to like it a lot, mind you the panniers stick up like sails at the back & that would be my only down comment on the bike. Hope you enjoy it Andrew! | |

Yeah they're GIVI ones like I had on the Bandit, Useful for holidays and trips but not something you'd leave on the bike.

Givi/Kappa are made on the same production line, Kappa are the slightly cheaper versions I believe. which begs the question? if the previous owner skimped on his choice of luggage by going for the cheaper option of aftermarket instead of genuine bmw. Did he also skimp on the service and general care of this motorcycle by choosing substandard products. I'd be asking for a reduction in price by the amount of £800, just to put my mind at rest over the thought of any potential problems arising from such matters.

| I went to have a look at the 2 BMW's today, the first one I looked at was the black 2012 F800ST with 15k on the clock with BMW panniers (which expand and take a full size helmet), full BMW history etc but it needs a lot of TLC, damaged mirror, scratched panels, lacquer lifting, topbox damaged, toolkit missing etc, I was surprised really, my 1999 SV is in better condition. It rode ok, so mechanically I think its fine, just the cosmetics. The Blue 2010 F800ST was in a lot better condition, it also had 15k on the clock, but no service history, mis-matched tyres, Kapper panniers that I could not fit my helmet in and the dash was basic, it did not have a engine temp, air temp & fuel gauge, it also did not tell you mpg, range etc. It just had mileage and trip. So, I did not get either, I have put an offer in for the black one but I doubt it will be accepted. I have also made enquires about a 2013 model but its done just over 20k and apparently has had the belt changed at its last BMW service, we'll see what transpires | |

| I did about 85 miles on it yesterday, it was bloody cold, temp was reading between 1 & 2 deg and it was snowing and raining on the way home with sleet & fog thrown in for good measure, I'm pleased to report the heated grips work very well, Fuel economy is good, averaged about 60mpg on the way home. Bike is now brown and not black!!. Riding position seems fine with no back/shoulder aches when I got off it. Only 2 things I'm still trying to get used to, the indicator switches (left on left side, right on right side and cancel on a separate button on the right side) and the throttle is a bit 'jerky' at low revs which I believe is normal for Fuel Injection, but every bike is different and I have never owned a FI bike before. I've not managed to open it up yet as the road conditions were not very good. | |

| Bugger, I hate that arrangement with the indicators, I dare say you'll get used to it though.
Old boy over the road bought and fitted a gizmo thingummy to his F800 that smoothed the throttle response as he didn't like the snatchiness, I'll ask him what it was and where he got it tomorrow if I see him sloping about.

| You'll get used to the 'Indicators' Andrew! And once you do it will feel more natural for some reason? (I did with the Harley) My BM's the normal set up (changed to both 'left & right' on the left cluster from 2010) and they're 'self cancelling' after 300 Yards , I'd have thought your's would be 'self cancelling' as well? | |

I am getting used to them, the problem will be when I ride one of my other bikes, I will keep hitting the start button :) I'm pretty sure they are not self cancelling, I will have a read of the manual as I will not be able to get anywhere near the bike until Sunday.
