| Greetings from Las Vegas! My name is Jason, but most people on the forums refer to me as "Sin", a short version of my username.
I'm a member of a few car forums, and a Moderator for one of them, so I know how to behave and you don't have to worry about me ever getting out of line.
I've been riding sport bikes for nearly 30 years, but I bought my first cruiser last year. Actually, I bought it as a birthday gift for my wife. A 1997 Marauder that I picked up for a steal. I was so excited that I was getting it so cheap, I failed to go through all the checks when buying a used vehicle. About 10 miles of riding it to my home, the engine began to buck and cough, then lost all power(little to no oil will do that). I spent the next hour beating myself up. It went to my sister's house, where it was planned to wait for the Mrs' birthday.
Fast forward three months, to when a replacement engine showed up two weeks before the birthday. My son and I swapped the engine, and took care of a few other minor repairs(headlight, frame cover replacement, etc.). When I rode it home for the birthday reveal, I realized a bit of carburetor tweaking was in order, but the reveal was first. The Mrs. loves it... so much so, that she almost cried!
Okay, now I know why I got the bike so cheap. When I attempted to adjust the carburetors, I found the pilot screw in the front carb must have been lost by a previous owner. They took a 6mm. bolt, put a crude taper on it with a grinder, then jammed in where the pilot screw should be. I was surprised the damned thing would run that way. Replacement carburetors on order, then installed and synchronized, I now have this bike running great... It has become a $1600 investment that started out as just a fraction of that. Still, both my wife and I love it!
I'm glad to be here. | |

Welcome mate! You certainly know your way around a motorcycle. Glad you joined the 800 family. Been to your lovely city - how do you cope riding in the heat? - it was 43C one day when I was in Vegas! Is Nevada a helmet state? What about lane splitting (is that legal?) - sitting in a jam in heat would be no fun, I bet. I would love to ride my WG up the Strip. Post some pics of your ride when you can.

| Welcome on board Sin - never been to Vegas, but I spent many years working in casinos, so Vegas was the spiritual homeland to us all. All the best with the ride | |

| Riding in the heat only bothers me when I'm stuck in traffic. If I'm going for a long ride in the heat, I wear a wet sweatshirt under my jacket. As I get a little warm, I pull the zipper down to let some air in. Evaporative cooling works great! Nevada is a helmet state, and lane splitting is illegal, but many of us go to the front of the line at a red light.
Thanks all, for the welcome!

| Lane splitting or filtering as it's called here is legal in the U.K. and is a way of life for most of us. But I'm sure a lot of the guys on here would swap your sunshine for a little less freedom in the traffic! | |
