| I recent let picked up 2 engines and a ton of other spares for a bargin price for my vx800 which the engine had seized on I have one engine that turns over (by hand as it's out the bike) and one that is seized. The "good"engine has had stator problems but the seized one doesn't but the stator and plates are diffent sizes, are the plates able to be swapped from engine to engine i.e. engine with bigger stator and plate swapped onto engine with smaller stator and plate and vice versa ? | |

| As far as I am aware the stator never changed on the VX from 1990 to 1994, they are the same part codes.
1990 https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/suzuki-parts/motorcycles/vx800u-1990/magneto-617587.aspx
1994 https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/suzuki-parts/motorcycles/vx800u-1994/magneto-621201.aspx

| I see what you mean but I have 2 vx engines both with the stators off one is sitting around 45mm I/d and the other around 60 i/d I was going to swap over the stator, stator plate and engine casing but would it have an effect on the running if the bike Unless it has been swapped previously from something like a vs maby I got a combo van full of parts (enough now to build two vx's) for a very cheep price *cough* £75 *cough* so it will be a long term project I think | |

| I wish I'd read this topic a few weeks ago as I have just run into the same problem. On the VX800 that I bought recently the left side engine covers had been powder coated at some point but on the generator cover the paint had been contaminated somehow and was bubbled up. I bought a replacement off e-bay and painted it beautifully only to find when I came to fit it that the stator wouldn't fit. My bike is a 1994 model and has the smaller stator mounting boss. I had checked previously on the website shown above if there had been any changes but clearly that information is not correct. I haven't got to the bottom of it yet. I don't know if both stators are compatible with the same rotor or if the rotors are different also but there are couple of things I do know: 1. Covers with the small boss/stator that I have seen have the reference 45C cast into them on the inside, in addition to a part reference of the form 1SZB-033. 2. All the covers available from the US that I have seen on ebay, where the VX800 was only sold from 1990-1993 do not have the 45C reference and have the large boss/stator and a different part number.
Hope this helps someone.

| I should add that I contacted the ebay supplier (twowheelspares) and they were also surprised. Despite there being no evidence of an error on their part, they like me had every reason to believe all VX800 generator covers are the same, they sent me a 'correct' item by courier and collected the 'wrong' one at the same time. Excellent service. | |
