| Been reading the site posts all week thanks to my 2004 Volusia breaking down whilst touring Cornwall last week. Potentially the spines on my driveshaft may have gone so plan to strip it down myself over the next week or so following various YouTube guidance videos. Thanks to Badger for recommending the site | |

| Cheers Badger, that is the page I read last weekend that made me think I have the same problem. Not good at all as I was on the M5 in the fast lane when all power went and was extremely lucky to get across safely to the hard shoulder. | |

| Well here's an update. I have fully stripped down my bike, checked the driveshaft and all good. Lubed it up with some moly and put it back together. Whilst the bike was in bits, I have cleaned all the filthy inaccessible areas and painted the rust with black hammerite smooth. I've now removed the clutch and the plates were burnt out and everything stunk of burn, including the oil. I've got new plates and springs and here is where it all hit the fan... Two of the spring bolts snapped inside the clutch housing/basket!!!!! I thought I was only torquing them to 7 lb/foot but one snapped and as it tried to undo another, it also snapped. Am now considering buying a new housing if I can remove the existing one without a removal tool (using a dog lead appears to work but we shall see) Are the VL800/VS800/C800/C50/M800 all the same clutch parts? Also if anyone has a clutch basket/housing, let me know | |
