| VS800 1997 I have a leaky oil seal in my water pump and I am attempting to rebuild the pump's seals. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to line up the three screws to the plate behind the impeller. I have one screw lined up with the hole in the impeller but have no idea how to get the other two lined up. There is three holes in the impeller and they have to line up with the back plate to remove the screws in order to put the water pump guts. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW OF AN EASY WAY TO LINE UP THE HOLES IN THE IMPELLER WITH THE SCREWS? | |

| Ok, so I wasn't thinking. I got my neighbor to come over and move the bike forward and backward in 5th gear while I lined up the impeller holes with the three screw heads. Only one screw came loose, so the other two will have to be drilled out. Thought this water pump seal rebuild was going to be fast and easy. No so. | |

| Replaced all the water pump seals and put it back on the bike. Idled it for a while so I could refill the coolant but I noticed that the fan never came on. Of course, I haven't put it on the street yet, so maybe it has to really heat up. It is hot (90's) and humid today, and the coolant did get really hot even bubbling over without the cap on it. I just wanted to fill the air pocket from what I lost when I removed the water pump. I will do an oil filter and oil change tomorrow and then maybe put it on the road to see if the water level goes down or not. So far, no leaks from the water pump, so I must have done it right. I'll check tomorrow morning to see if that little leak reoccurs. | |
