Thanks for the add.  I have a new-to-me VL800 that is missing an owner's manual and ownership papers.  It has been hibernating since 2009 in an unheated but dry garage.
Several major issues have been found with this bike. Most have been resolved, but others remain a mystery.  Many questions that I need answered as well. I will just start with the two most important ones.
1- Is there a fuel shut-off valve?  If so, where?
2- How is the gas cap supposed to come off? I have the proper key (it turns to the unlock position with no trouble) but the cap will not turn in either direction to come off.  It "does" move a little so I know it is not simply stuck.   I tried pushing down and turning since some bikes require this, but nothing I do seems to work.
Suggestions?

Welcome.
Is it not fuel injected?    Just disconnect the connections under the tank.
The petrol cap just pulls off.  Turn key clockwise, hold key and pull up.   push down to close.
