I need electrical help with vz800

I purchased a 2013 vz800 a few weeks ago to restore. my problem with it is strange. The old fuel pump relay wasnt kicking the fuel pump on, but I had good spark at the plugs. I tried another one, not a new one but supposedly a working on. this relay would turn the fuel pump on , but now I have no spark. I swithed back to the old one and had spark, no fuel pump. the ecm is a fairly new one from a bike with 7500 miles. I have checked all the connectors, fuses all ok but no spark with the newer relay. I can feel the relay click when I turn on the switch, will crank but no spark. its about to drive me crazy. any help would be appreciated. this model is a fuel injected model, L3 I believe.  the wiring schematic will make a grown man cry! lol!
